 | HP Laserjet 3200 by Mike (4/22/03 8:02 AM) reply | + / - | Hi, I have an all-in-one machine (HP 3200) that will not print. The ready light blinks like it should when getting ready to print but the engine never fires up. The ready light blinks until I hit Clear on the printer. Same thing when I try to copy. Please tell me this is software or easily installed DIY firmware. Thanks.

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Denny Conway (4/22/03 10:57 AM) reply | + / - | MIKE: As an "HP Authorized Service Provider", I'm limited to how much help I'm legally allowed to give, but I try to help when I can...Your printer may not actually be your problem, but the easiest way to normally check is to try running your printer as a "STAND ALONE PRINTER", not connected to a PC. Unhook the "printer cable" from the back of the printer and with paper loaded, turn the printer off for about 10 seconds. This is done to clear out any remaining DATA/INFORMATION that may still have been in the printers system. Now turn on the "Power Button/Switch" and run any SELF-TEST PAGES that are available thru your Service Menu...IF EVERYTHING IS WORKING CORRECTLY IN THE PRINTER, THEN THE "INTERNAL SELF-TEST COPIES/TESTS/REPORTS/SERVICE COPIES" SHOULD PRINT OUT NORMALLY...As a general rule, if those self-test pages print out correctly, then your printer is basically working normally as far as the internal tests go. You should run all available self-tests and reports, just be sure, but usually if it works once it will normally do the same again...IF YOUR PRINTER IS WORKING OK, THEN YOUR PROBLEM COULD POSSIBLY BE IN YOUR PC: corrupted printer drivers, bad printer cable, bad software, incorrect internal PC settings, possible virus, etc...Good Luck! | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Christine (5/20/03 9:26 AM) reply | + / - | Hi, I have an all-in-one machine (HP 3200) that will not print. The ready light comes on but the error yellow light stays on. When turned on, the printer starts initializing then stops. It won't do anything. I have windows XP and downgraded to a Windows 2000 due to problems with XP. I also loaded the drivers according to the HP website. After I restarted the computer, the printer stopped working.
Can somebody please tell me if this is a software problem? I believe it's due to the dirvers I downloaded from HP but not sure..
Thanks.

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Denny Conway (5/20/03 3:56 PM) reply | + / - | CHRISTINE: TRY RUNNING YOUR HP PRINTER AS A "STAND ALONE PRINTER", NOT CONNECTED TO A PC: Unhook the "printer cable" from the back of the printer. The power cord would still be plugged in to the wall. With paper loaded normally, turn the printer off for 10 seconds, or so. This is done to clear out any remaining DATA/INFORMATION that may still have been in the printers system, from when the PC was previously connected. Now reach over and turn the printer on as normal. The printer should come on and go to a normal READY CONDITION, with no ERROR LIGHTS on. If you get an ERROR LIGHT on, then you know you have a problem in your printer. If there are no ERROR LIGHTS on, then you can try running your printers "Internal HP Self-Test Page" or "Sample Page" or "Demo Page". How to run what ever tests are available for your particular model of HP, can be found in your USERS MANUAL that came with the printer, or you can go online to HP and try looking up the procedure. If everything is working correctly in the printers "PAPER FEED ASSEMBLY" and "TONER CARTRIDGE ASSEMBLY", the self-test copy should be printed out and correctly fed thru the printer...AS A GENERAL RULE: If the self-test page prints out correctly, then usually your printer is working normally. This does not mean your printer may not be dirty, or have another service related problem, or even a bad cartridge. It just means the printer is basically working normally as far as the internal tests go. You could run this self-test several times [just be sure], but usually if it works once it will do the same again...IF YOUR PRINTER IS WORKING OK, THEN YOUR PROBLEM WOULD NORMALLY BE IN YOUR PC: bad drivers, bad printer cable, bad software, etc...Good Luck! | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Christine (5/20/03 7:43 PM) reply | + / - | Thank you to your suggestions. I tried all of them but the printer still did not work. I'm almost positive that the firmware I downloaded from the HP website caused the printer to stay in error. The printer was working when I had a Windows 2000 OS and never did work with Windows XP. The ready light and the error light are both on and the LCD display remained blank.
Anybody who can help or has some idea on how to resolve this error light, please reply.
Thanks.

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Denny Conway (5/21/03 9:26 AM) reply | + / - | CHRISTINE: If you ran your printer as a "Stand Alone Printer" and it still does not work, then your problem is normally in your printer, not in your PC or its operating system. Your printer only receives DATA from your PC thru the Printer Cable, but that DATA stops when the cable is disconnected and your printer is reset by turning it OFF and ON. Data normally cannot cause damage to your printer, as it is simply communication...Denny Conway

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 Error Code 79 by dolson (10/3/06 12:14 PM) reply | + / - | I took my LJ 3200 MFP back to Fries Electronics in Dallas twice during its warranty period to fix an Error 79 message. Both times, I was told "nothing wrong, just unplug it overnight and it will be fine." Long story short, I quit using it for awhile, but now have a need for it. HP website talks about a firmware fix for error 79, but product support is discontinued. I can't find any way to get to this download. Can anyone help? do

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by DanAt2ndStory (10/17/06 7:16 AM) reply | + / - | To raj_mehta, anthonycris, & Christine: You are not alone. I have Win2000 and a 3200. Being a technician for the last 10 years, I know that it is always valuable to update firmware to obtain fixes and new enhancements and have NEVER had a problem until now. I updated my firmware on the printer and since that day every time I power the printer on the green and amber lights stay on and nothing appears on the LCD. I have tried EVERY solution available on the internet short of paying the extortion of $50 to get new firmware from HP. I even called HP support. They were quite content in reminding me of the disclaimer I agreed to at the start of the firmware update as they probably chuckled off the phone at my now stuck situation. I now have a 20lb paperweight. If someone has a link where you can get the firmware for say $25-$30, I would consider it. Otherwise, I'll probably have to junk this one out, sadly.
anthonycris, do you have that link to the firmware chip for less than $30???
To Denny Conway and any other HP "smartguy": Skip the "stupid user" ideas. They don't work with this one. Once that firmware update program cooks the firmware chip, it's over. Only the $50 replacement chip will solve the problem. The only condition where someone can recover the printer by that magic little button on the back and the reset buttons is if it didn't over-write the firmware. If it did, you're screwed. If you really want to help, tell HP to replace those firmware DIMMS for us at no cost and drop that link on their site so that no one else does this same thing. Then have them buy up about two dozen printers off ebay and test that garbage firmware update, fix their flaw, then repost it. P.S. please tell HP from me "thanks for little to nothing on help".

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Sharpie (10/17/06 11:50 AM) reply | + / - | Yeah not much you can do now but replace the chip, I've gotten a few out of this by doing a cold reset of sorts.
I don't even bother trying software firmware updates anymore for this model, if it has an old code, I replace the chip. Had too many return after updating (some a few weeks, some a few months later) with blank screens like yours or some that start getting 79 errors. I believe its a bad chip on the dimm that causes it. Had a few that we replaced the dimm & that went bad. The current ones HP sells works though, never had to replace it a 2nd time & they had this version out a while now.
Try a reset by unplugging the power, hold down [*] and the [Enter/Menu] keys & power it on, hold them down for a minute or two, wait until it says "permanent storage initialize". (Note: this will clear all settings including page count, serial #, speed dials, & reset menu settings back to default..not that you have much choice at this time).
I found no place for the firmware dimms & agree that HP is ripping us off, they used to cost under $25 until not too long ago when they jumped the price way up. Now they're doing it to the fuser gear packs for 42xx/43xx and all they did is add a fuser pressure gear & now change the part # and add $40 cost.

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Sharpie (10/17/06 11:56 AM) reply | + / - | Almost forgot, I do have 1 old coded firmware dimm if you want it. Just click the tool symbol by my name & send me an email. Haven't tested it in a while but worked last time I checked, can't say it'll last years but we just replaced it & never bothered doing the software update to it.

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by DanAt2ndStory (10/17/06 1:57 PM) reply | + / - | Emailed. I tried that reset holding the two keys for 1 1/2 min but no luck. I saw other posts at other sites about hitting the black reset button in the back first. I saw others talk about the (*), (#), and Enter/Menu all three buttons being the reset. Thoughts?
|
 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Sharpie (10/18/06 5:31 AM) reply | + / - | Yeah if the [*] & [enter/menu] didn't work then the firmware dimm is lost for sure. Never heard or tried the # key with that combo, I don't think that does anything else.

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by raizy (11/15/06 5:50 PM) reply | + / - | Hello,
I'm getting a "79 service error" on my printer that doesn't allow me to print.
What is a 79 sevice error?
Thank you.

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by TikiMon (2/21/07 6:40 AM) reply | + / - | If all else fails on a 79 service error, you will have to replace the chip.
I'm an IT pro and had one of these. Happily, we have a good printer repair contract. The tech walked in with the chip ready, no doubt in his mind. Five minutes later, it's back to life.
It's so common that it's a design flaw in my opinion. Recall, anyone? ;-)

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Art Kohler (8/16/07 6:58 AM) reply | +1 + / - | I have a Laserjet 3200 all in one machine and have used it for over five years. I recently bought a new computer with Windows Vista and it works fine with the printer but I keep getting an error message when I start up the computer which is:
"HP Laserjet 3200 software has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
When I close this dialog box, the printer prints out a test page and after that, the printer works fine. Has anyone else had this experience and if so, how can I stop the error message and the printing of the test page? I've used up a lot of paper with test pages and Windows has never notified me of a solution to any problem.

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Anonymous (12/31/07 5:37 PM) reply | + / - | I have a HP Laserjet 3200m and I'm getting the error message "51 LASER ERROR". I did some research and learned it could be caused by a bad cartridge, but $60 later that didn't do the trick.
I recently had the printer shipped. When it got here, it worked but the print was very light. Then I started getting that error message.
I tried hitting [*] and [enter/menu] when cycling the power and I get a message something like "resetting memory" but I get the same 51 error message a little while after I release the buttons.
Is it bricked?
|
 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by moe (12/31/07 7:48 PM) reply | + / - | Laser error refers to a beam detect error. It could be due to dirty optics inside the laser scanner assy. The laser scanner is located on top of the printer. You'd have to take the back cover off, the 2 side covers and the top cover to access it. When you clean the mirrors, use a dry cotton swab. If that fails, then you'll have to replace the unit.

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by susterr (4/18/08 8:57 AM) reply | + / - | We were getting an error message so we unplugged the printer. We then plugged it back in and the screen is blank! The orange error light is on as is the green ready light. It still makes the "warming up" sound when you plug it in but we just can't see anything on the screen! Can anyone help? Do we need to buy a new machine?
|
 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Sharpie (4/18/08 4:46 PM) reply | + / - | No you don't have to get a new machine.
If for some reason that doesn't work, then you'll have to replace the firmware DIMM in the back, easy do-it-yourself install too. On the back cover is a door that swings up reveling the memory DIMMs, the large one in the back is the firmware DIMM (has to be in the back slot to work)
Part # for the FW DIMM is C7867-69007

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by supsterr (5/3/08 4:19 PM) reply | + / - | UNfortunately it did nto work to hold down * and Enter/Menu. I undertstand the DIMM card are about $50-$75. How certain are you that that will fix the problem? It's a lot of money to waste if it doesn't and I'd rather put it toward a new one. Look forward to hearing what you think.

 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by jalfd (5/4/08 7:13 PM) reply | + / - | I intermittently get error 50 fuser error on my hp3200. Have to power off for 30 minutes twice in last week. I also currently have a low toner cartrige. Can the low toner cartrige cause fuser error? We are thinking of replacing machine with a M1522 MFP for 299 rather than spend 60 on a cartrige only to continue with the fuser error. I'm afraid if we replace the fuser the problem might be the power supply.
|
 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by moe (5/4/08 9:57 PM) reply | + / - | Can't possibly be a toner cartridge issue. Could be the fuser or the power supply. Never seen a power supply cause a 50 error on that model, but when a fuser goes bad, the error is permanent. That's why I'd lean towards the power supply, not to say that it can't possibly be a fuser issue.
|
 | Re: HP Laserjet 3200 by Sharpie (5/5/08 4:43 AM) reply | + / - | Hey supsterr,
Yeah I'm quite positive that a new DIMM will fix the problem, fixed the problem for a lot of customers we got so far. When the DIMM goes bad it often leaves a blank screen with the LEDs lit or if you leave it on long enough they sometimes give a 79 error (which a new DIMM fixes most of the time).
