 | HP-9800 Deskjet Printer Lights ERROR by PattyHarless (3/6/07 9:21 AM) reply | + / - | HELP! My HP-9800 Deskjet is causing me MAJOR grief. Immediately from powering it on (plugging it in) here is what it does. 1) The printer lights strobe from the left printer cartridge light, to the right printer cartridge light, then to the resume light & then to the power button light. This goes on for about 15 seconds (again lights left to right). 2) Then the printer heads goes all the way across to the left and then the right… then it ejects a black sheet of paper. (I noticed the printer head kinda slaps against both ends of the carriage (as if it doesn’t know where the end of the carriage is). 3) Then both left and right printer cartridge lights light up and stay on continuously & the resume and power lights blink back and fourth.
I tried to diagnose the lights this with HP's Help file but I don't see anything quite like this.
What I have done so far. Replaced both cartridges color (97) & black(96) with brand new ones. Looked for paper jam but nothing. I can never connect to the printer since it never is available Blown out the inside with compressed (air in a can). I cannot get anything disgnostic through the USB port since it never goes online to the computer. (I assume because its some sort of hardware error).
Thinking back... This problem was at 1st intermittent and could be cleared by a reset. Now its all the time!
THanks so much for your time and help
Patty

 | Re: HP-9800 Deskjet Printer Lights ERROR by Bert (4/11/08 9:34 PM) reply | + / - | Remove and clean the service station. This entails removing the motor and soaking the service station in hot water to remove ink accumulation. Scrape out as much congealed ink as possible before soaking.
There is also a possibility that that the service station motor has failed.
